Psychotherapy for gender and sexual diversity
Laura Jacobs, LCSW-R, is devoted to empowering gender and sexually diverse clients to live with joy, resilience, and authenticity. She offers culturally competent, compassionate, and trauma-informed psychotherapy, always centering clients’ identities and autonomy. Laura affirms all identities—transgender, queer, kinky, polyamorous, neurodivergent, or otherwise—and believes therapy should be a space where no one has to justify who they are.
What you can expect in our work together
Clients can expect a supportive and affirming relationship grounded in compassion, empowerment, and exploration. Laura helps clients navigate identity, trauma, and systemic oppression, while also building hope in the face of current cultural and legislative challenges. She creates space for healing while honoring the relationship between individual and society.
How I support healing
Laura’s approach integrates trauma-informed psychotherapy with a lifelong commitment to education and advocacy. She has developed and shared expertise through books, lectures, workshops, and clinical supervision, with several hundred educational appearances across the U.S. and Europe. Her therapy blends relational exploration, resilience-building, and affirming care to support clients in living without shame or judgment.
A little about me
Laura identifies as trans and genderqueer, lesbian, kinky, creative, and playful, with intersecting marginalized identities rooted in a family history of systemic oppression and refugee experience. Before becoming a psychotherapist, she worked as a musician, composer, photographer, and sound designer—creativity continues to shape her life through art projects, community events, and joyful pursuits. Outside of therapy, Laura enjoys dining out, museums, jazz clubs, and embracing her nerdy side as a devoted Muppet fan and lifelong Trekkie. She is a fierce advocate, a community member, and a self-described lovable goofball.
